SOMA SHEN is the healing practice of Matthew Brincat — acupuncture, sound healing, reiki, and coaching, offered from lived experience rather than theory.
Over time, trauma can leave behind a layer of numbness. That numbness is not a defect, it is a protection, the body's way of surviving what was too much to hold all at once. Trauma is not something wrong with us, and it is not something simply removed. It is the nervous system adapting, learning, and organizing itself around what it has endured.
The difficulty begins when that adaptation continues unconsciously, long after the danger has passed. When what was once overwhelming is finally met and integrated, the nervous system can start to loosen its hold and recognize that it no longer needs to live in survival mode.
As these protective layers begin to soften, a more natural state returns with them: presence, strength, and a different relationship to feeling. Life can start to open again, with more clarity and less weight.
And the beginning of that process remains the same: facing the Shadow, not avoiding it.
Sessions run for 90 minutes and integrate all four modalities together, allowing for deeper nervous system regulation alongside a more intuitive, felt sense of self. Because the intention here is to respond to the individual's needs, specific elements, like Reiki, can also be booked as standalone sessions. Being a Master of five Reiki traditions, gives me the ability to hold sessions also remotely (online). Here, the element of Coaching (NLP, TTL, and Hypnotherapy) supports the flow of Reiki energy, helping to release blockages and energetic attachments through the individual's own conscious presence and awareness.

Reiki supports the energy field by helping release blocks and restore natural flow across the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual layers. Offered in person or remotely, each session responds to what is most present, from balance and healing to deeper energetic support.

Sound healing meets the tension carried in the body and the mental noise that rarely settles on its own. Through gong, bowl, drum, and ritual elements, the session creates space for deep rest, helping the nervous system return to a quieter, more coherent state.

Acupuncture works with the symptoms affecting daily life, while listening for the deeper patterns they are arising with. Treatment points are chosen to restore flow through the meridians, ease nervous system strain, and support greater clarity, relief, and balance.
Sessions may stand alone or unfold through a treatment plan, depending on what the body is ready to shift.

Coaching works with recurring patterns, emotional blocks, and the challenge of turning intention into sustained change. Through NLP, Timeline Therapy, Hypnotherapy, and practical guidance, the work supports both inner release and the structure needed to move forward.
Matthew Brincat's path to healing was not academic first, it was lived. Born into a working-class Maltese family, he spent years searching for belonging, moving through addiction, incarceration, and a long, difficult return to himself before finding stillness on the other side.
That descent became the foundation of his practice. Rebuilding his life through rehabilitation, writing, and eventually plant medicine and energy work, Matthew found in Taoist medicine, acupuncture, Reiki, and ritual healing a language for what words alone couldn't hold. In 2017, he published his first book, RANDOM — The Choices We Have Forgotten About, drawn directly from his recovery years.
For over a decade, Matthew worked closely with plant medicine, including Ayahuasca and San Pedro, learning the traditional Ayahuasca brewing process during time spent in Ecuador, and later holding space for 5-MeO-DMT sessions and integration support at ceremonial retreats in Romania. That chapter shaped the depth of presence he now brings into every session, though it remains part of his story rather than his current practice.
Today, Matthew holds Master-level Reiki certification across Usui, Seichim, Karuna, Sekhem Seichim, and Lightarian traditions, alongside certification in Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Timeline Therapy, and Hypnotherapy, and continues studying Taoist medicine, herbal healing, and grid-work. SOMA SHEN is where that lived knowledge becomes practice — not taught from theory, but offered from someone who has walked all the way down before walking back up.
